SANJOSE will enlarge the Madrid - Chamartín - Clara Campoamor Railway Station

12/04/2022

Adif has awarded SANJOSE Constructora - in a joint venture with Vías y Construcciones, Azvi and Comsa - the contract for the expansion and remodelling of the Madrid - Chamartín - Clara Campoamor Railway Station, which aims to adapt the station to the increase in traffic expected due to the upcoming entry into service of new sections of the High Speed network, the liberalisation of passenger transport by rail, and the standard gauge tunnel that will connect it to the Madrid Puerta de Atocha Station.

This project mainly involves the construction of 4 new tracks for high-speed trains with their corresponding platforms and the enlargement and remodelling of the station concourse to cover and connect with these new tracks and platforms.

As a result of this complete remodelling, three different areas will be created in the passenger building: a boarding area for high-speed trains, an area for local trains with access via turnstiles and a common lobby in the form of a large longitudinal corridor. This central corridor, 18 metres wide, is the 'heart' of the station and will be the main route for passengers and users.

The project includes other complementary actions, including the construction of an underground connection with the Cercanías concourse and with Metro de Madrid, a new technical building for high-speed facilities at the northern end of the station, and the construction of foundations and piles for the track covering on the east side.

It should be noted that all actions will be coordinated so that the station will remain in service throughout the execution of the works.
